About

Winifred and Bance was conjured up over a couple of years really. The seed was planted after I spent a good month cleaning out my nanny’s house on the farm after she died in April 2005. I spent another couple of years perfecting the idea until the right opportunity came about and ta daa! Winifred and Bance a la vintage boutique!

Nan was born 5th January 1920 along with her twin sister Connie. Winifred and Connie Bance. After a good many years as a sergent in the RAAF Nan married Cunderdin farmer, Les Carter on 7th Feb 1948. (Her wedding gown is on display in store along with many other bits and pieces from the farm house!)

We were pretty good mates me and nan. I grew up in another house about 500m up the hill so there was always milo and gingernuts on tap not to mention the lollytin on top of the fridge, grated apple on the day-bed when I was sick and mum was away, trips to Perth on the Prospector Train to visit Aunty Connie, mecurochroming the scratches on her legs from her mad wild tabby cat Benji, feeding the chooks, going for walks up the driveway, swatting flies with a eucalypt branch and baking cookies and turkish delight…Nan’s favourite!

I’ve always loved ferreting through things, creating new from old, op shopping, old stuff, garage sales, swap meets and markets, not to mention a good bargain…all of which you can find right here at Winifred and Bance. The cream of the crop, hand picked vintage items from around the globe!

I import from America, Asia and Europe and I’m constantly op shopping and going to markets, garage sales and car boot sales. I also take vintage items on consignment, from clothing to prints, jewellery to ice buckets, hats to belts…we’re always open to suggestion. As long as it’s clean, still useable/wearable, on hangers and VINTAGE most importantly!
